Pluto Retrograde 2026

Since November 2024, Pluto has been fully settled into Aquarius, where he will remain until 2044. If you haven’t read my original piece on Pluto in Aquarius, you can find it here.

The essence: Pluto in Aquarius is the twenty-year initiation into radical individuality. The death of conformity as a survival strategy and the rebirth of the authentic, weird, brilliant, unedited self as the most revolutionary act available to us. While Pluto in Capricorn (2008 to 2024) dismantled the old power structures, Pluto in Aquarius is asking the more personal and far more exciting question:

Now that the old structures are crumbling, are you finally going to let your freak flag fly?

Aquarius, ruled by Uranus, is the Fixed Air sign of innovation, rebellion, genius, and the radical liberation of the individual within the collective.

In its healed expression Uranus is visionary, humanitarian, brilliantly original, and utterly unafraid to be different.

In its unhealed expression: detached, contrarian, and rigidly attached to its own ideology without doing the inner work to know what it is actually rebelling toward.

The most radical thing you can do in the Age of Aquarius is become fully, completely, unapologetically yourself.

Before we talk about the retrograde, let’s orient ourselves. We are now a year and a half into this twenty-year transit. That is worth pausing on and celebrating.

Go back and look at your photos, your journal, your calendar from November 2024 onward. What has already shifted? What has been transformed? What part of yourself, your relationships, your sense of identity, or your community has been quietly but unmistakably changed since Pluto fully entered Aquarius? Chances are, more has already moved than you have been giving yourself credit for.

You have already been in this energy longer than you think. You are further along than you know.

Since January of this year, Pluto has moved from 3° to 5° Aquarius. Two degrees. In six months. This is the slow burn Pluto is famous for, and it is a beautiful reminder that we are in the very earliest chapters of a story that will unfold across decades. The retrograde is not asking you to do more. It is asking you to deepen into and fully integrate the transformation that is already underway.

Think of Pluto’s direct motion as the outer revolution. The events, the endings, the structural changes in your life that are clearly Plutonian in their intensity. The retrograde is the gift of inner alchemy to match those outer shifts.

The outside changed. Now the inside gets to catch up, and that is where the real power lives.

Pluto retrograde is shadow work season, and shadow work is one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself. It is the invitation to lovingly illuminate the parts of yourself that have been operating from old programming, so you can consciously choose something truer. The beliefs that were handed to you by someone else. The places where you have been giving your power away without realizing it. The version of yourself you have been hiding because you weren’t sure the world was ready.

Pluto retrograde in Aquarius says: the world is ready. More importantly, YOU are ready.

Because Pluto is retrograding through the first decan of Aquarius, the themes being activated are beautifully personal: the liberation of your full, authentic, individual self within the context of your community and your relationships. The invitation to stop performing a version of yourself for belonging, and to discover the extraordinary freedom of showing up as exactly who you are.

Who are you when you stop performing for the tribe? That is the person Pluto in Aquarius came to celebrate.

This is also a beautiful time to tend to your nervous system. Transformation, even joyful transformation, deserves nourishment and safe, loving spaces to land.

This is a season for rich, rewarding inner work. 

Therapy, journaling, somatic work, ritual, deep meditation, all of these are powerful allies right now. Whatever has been coming up since Pluto entered Aquarius is not here to overwhelm you. It is here to liberate you. The freedom on the other side of honest inner inquiry is one of the most liberating feelings we can experience.

Explore your relationship with belonging. Which parts of yourself are ready to stop hiding? Which gifts, opinions, quirks, and expressions of your unique genius are ready to come into the light? This retrograde is a beautiful invitation to let more of the real you be seen & to discover just how welcomed that person actually is.

Reclaim your power consciously & joyfully. Notice where you have been outsourcing your sense of authority or worth to others & begin to choose differently. Reclaiming your power doesn’t have to be dramatic. Sometimes it is simply the quiet, revolutionary act of trusting yourself.

You are not going backward. You are going deeper. And as any mermaid can tell you, the most beautiful treasures are discovered in the depths.
