How DO they work together??
If you’re familiar with Human Design, you likely know that it’s a synthesis of many different systems, including Astrology, the Chinese I Ching, the Chakras, and the Kabbalah/Qabalah (among others). But it’s this last connection that has always confounded me more than the others.
When I first came to Human Design, I could very clearly see the correlations & influence of Astrology and the I Ching (having studied both systems prior to finding HD). However, as a long-time practitioner & student of the Qabalah, I often wondered how the Tree of Life was woven into Human Design (aside from the Body Graph and the Tree just looking similar).
A lot of times you hear things like this…
1.) The Body Graph (Human Design chart) is the Tree turned upside down.
No. While this might make sense simply based on the actual shapes of the symbols, this makes NO sense to a Qabalist. There is actually an upsidedown tree in the Kabbalah/Qabalah, but it’s connected with the Qliphoth, the evil and averse world below the Tree, and that’s not what the Body Graph is.
or…
2.) The Body Graph has 9 centers, and the Tree has 10, and there are 36 Channels in the Body Graph and 32 Pathways on the Tree – so there is no connection. Don’t try to force it.
Again, no. Due to the religious persecution in ancient times, many of the Kabbalistic teachings were purpously hidden in what are called “intentional blinds” or traps to keep the information hidden to avoid persecution (so the wisdom could survive). So if you don’t have a deep understanding of the Tree of Life you would never be able to see the correspondances between the Tree and the Body Graph.
Here is an overview of the meanings of the different Sephiroth (Spheres) of the Tree of Life, and the correspondences to the Body Graph (below):
1. Personality Crystal (Kether/Crown): the Soul (Nothing & Everything), Primordial Yang, comes from the father, so ephemeral we can attribute it to the head as well, or floating just above the head
2. Head (Chokmah/Zodiacal Wheel): Inspiration, mental pressure, ideas, first swirlings, where an idea originates before it becomes fully formed in lower spheres
3. Ajna (Binah/Saturn): Conceptualization, awarness that categorizes & analyzes, (Saturn materializes & structures things), seat of Design Crystal (comes from the mother), Primordial Yin
4. Throat (Chesed/Jupiter): Expression, manifestation (the decree of the Benevolent King), action that attracts attention
6. Identity/G Center (Tiphareth/Sun): Direction, love, identity (all solar qualities), seat of Magnetic Monopole (VIP)
5. Ego (Geburah/Mars): Willpower, drive, motivation, self-worth, willingness to fight (warrior) to prove oneself (or not)
8. Spleen (Hod/Mercury): Health (staff of Hermes/Mercury as medical symbol), intuitive awareness, logic, survival
7. Solar Plexus (Netzach/Venus): Feelings, emotional awareness, spirit, depth, romance, eroticism
9. Sacral (Yesod/Moon): Generative energy, The Foundation of all life, reproduction (female moon cycle), sexuality, vitality
10. Root Center (Malkuth): Ability to handle pressure of Earthly plane (or not), adrenal glands, fuel of our evolution, motor
And of course, the descriptions of these connections are ridiculously brief (due to blog post). Each Sephiroth/Sphere/Center also exists in 4 worlds when the Tree of Life turns into the Ladder of Light (all of which we will study in depth in Prismatic Perspective).
Additionally, if you’re familiar with Hexagram Structure in Human Design, we can see similar correspondences when we overlay the Hexagram Lines over the Tree of Life:
And that’s not even getting into the correspondences between the 32 Pathways on the Tree and the 64 (32×2) Gates in the Body Graph (which is just the tip of the iceberg of a whoooole different arena of connections that we will explore in Prismatic Perspective. Can you just study Human Design and/or Astrology without knowing all of these connections? Of course.
But I know you’re not a basic person…
You’re one of the magical ones.
When you study these systems together, as the Cohesive Ecosystem they were designed to be – when you think of one Planet/Gate/Center/Sign an entire sphere of correspondences opens up and you see things that other Astro/HD people will never see.
