This New Moon is giving all of us a fresh start & a reset around what makes us feel safe…in our bodies, our communication, and safe to express what has been quietly building inside us & finally let our magic out into the world.
What makes this New Moon unique is that its story is deeply woven with that of Mercury Retrograde. Mercury has been retrograde in Cancer since June 29th, retracing his steps through the themes of safety, nourishment & emotional honesty. And right before this New Moon arrived, Mercury just had his own significant experience in his retrograde journey.
On July 12th, Mercury Retrograde formed what is known as a Cazimi, the moment when a Planet moves into the exact heart of the Sun & is cleansed, purified & reborn. All of the confusion, doubt & overthinking that may have been swirling through the first part of this retrograde had the potential to be obliterated by the light.
And then right after that, the Cancer New Moon gives us a real chance to create a new foundation that feels truly safe in our bodies.
With Mercury Retrograde conjunct this New Moon, what is arriving is not just a beginning. It is a rebirth. Some way of expressing yourself, some part of your voice, some creative gift that has been waiting for your body to feel safe enough to finally let it through.
It is time to let your magic out, Shining One.
Ruled by the Moon herself, Cancer in its Quintessence is all about SAFETY.
Often times this is translated into ideas around home, physical dwelling, family, family of origin, ancestors, the mother or maternal bloodline, the physical body & our emotional well-being.
In its healed expression Cancer is nurturing, protective, caring, empathetic, compassionate, self-soothing, sensitive, healing & intuitive.
In its unhealed expression it can be smothering, needy, worried, overly emotional, overly sensitive, moody, afraid of abandonment, insecure or overly fearful.
Over the years I’ve found that sometimes this traditional imagery of Cancer (home, family, mother) were in fact not safe places for many of us, and so I invite you to take a moment to consider: what is it that makes you feel safe personally?
Cancer also rules the physical body. Movement, stretching, nourishing yourself well, taking naps can all be supportive right now. Your emotions can rise & fall like the tides. Remember the cure for anything is salt water, whether it is the ocean, a hot salt bath (or footbath), tears or sweat.
Something new is being birthed through all of us right now. Cancer is the Divine Mother archetype, the portal through which new life enters the world. This New Moon is asking you to let your mission become louder than your mind & to let your heart become the channel through which something new arrives.
THIS NEW MOON & MERCURY RETROGRADE
Mercury is conjunct this New Moon, retracing his steps through the same degrees where so much has already been seeded. The fresh start available right now is not a clean break from the past but a refinement of it. Something that was forming between June 12th & June 29th, in the pre-retrograde shadow, is now receiving a new beginning. It will continue to be refined & deepened as Mercury moves through his final chapters.
This is the seed that will blossom slowly, in its own perfect time.
ASPECTS TO THE CANCER NEW MOON
The New Moon occurs at 21° Cancer & is conjunct Mercury Retrograde at 19° Cancer
This is the only major aspect to this New Moon, & it is everything.
With Mercury Retrograde exactly aligned with this new moon, this is a pivotal fresh start, and new beginning to whatever your Mercury Retrograde journey has been so far. Whatever House holds 16° to 26° of Cancer in your chart is where this rebirth is happening for you personally (check your Rising Sign forecast below). What I love about this particular New Moon is the way it connects all the way back to the Summer Solstice on June 21st. The Solstice always marks a time of new beginnings, and Mercury was already Retrograde for the Solstice.
So now, we get a second beginning. The Solstice was the pre-game. Whatever stirred, shifted or began to take shape around that time is now being given a proper beginning. The Solstice cracked something open. This New Moon is where it actually starts to grow.
Slowly but surely, as Mercury completes his Retrograde, the seeds we plant on this Cancer New Moon will be one of the strongest & most nourishing new beginnings of the year.
I just love seeing the symphony of all of these different energies coming into orchestration for this New Moon. The Mercury Cazimi burning away the confusion & fear. The Cancer New Moon landing right after it, conjunct Mercury, in the 62nd Gate of the Language of Light in the Throat center. The Universe is giving us all an important mental reset around how we communicate about what we need & what makes us feel safe.
This is actually a very powerful & potent Cancer New Moon for all of us.
This New Moon falls in Gate 62: The Gate of Details, also known as The Language of Light.
Gate 62 sits in the Throat Center & carries the gift of being able to take complex ideas & communicate them in ways that anyone can understand. It is the gate of naming things, of finding exactly the right word, of speaking with such clarity that what was once murky becomes suddenly, simply seen.
The Shadow of Intellect is what happens when the mind mistakes information for wisdom. When we scroll & research & plan, not because we actually need more information, but because we are searching outside ourselves for permission to speak. We get trapped in the Shadow frequency when we tell ourselves we need to have every detail organized, every step mapped out, every possible question answered, before we can finally let our magic out.
That permission will never come from outside of you. You just have to do the damn thing.
And here is what I know from lived experience about what happens when we stay in that shadow for too long.
The creative energy that was meant to move through us starts to stagnate. We feel foggy, confused, exhausted & like we have forgotten something important, because we have. We are missing the medicine of our own soul’s expression.
Gate 62 carries a powerful message at this time. We are being moved to share our gifts more boldly & bravely than usual. But there is also a sneaky shadow: the trap of waiting until you have every detail mapped out, every question answered, every step planned before you allow yourself to begin. When we get caught in that trap the creative energy backs up in the Throat & shows up as anxiety, as restlessness, as the vague but persistent feeling that something is trying to get out & you keep pushing it back down.
This is why I always say: the anxiety you feel when you have not posted in a while is not about Instagram. It is about suppressed creative life force. It is Gate 62 asking you to let your magic out.
The antidote is not more planning. It is not more clarity. It is simply beginning.
The Gift of Precision is the turning point. Here, the mind stops trying to defend itself & steps into service.
